Music festival cancelled after bridged walkways left thousands of fans stranded
Added By: Molly Wahlberg

The Hope & Glory music festival, which was due to take place in St George’s Square in Liverpool over the weekend has been cancelled after a row about bridged walkways left thousands of fans stranded for hours.

Following a disastrous first day, the organizers of Hope and Glory Festival, pulled the plug on the second day of live music.

The event, which commenced on Saturday morning, had promised to be “a weekend of incredible music”, but festival-goers reported problems of overcrowding and singer Charlotte Church was pulled from the line-up following a two-hour delay. Festival organizers then took to Twitter on Sunday morning, to post: “No festival today.”

They commented on their Facebook page that fault was with their production manager, and the name and email address of the manager was published online, with organizers saying they were responsible for there being no bridged walkways and the site being incomplete. The company responded, however, stating that the email address had “been posted in error and is not the correct contact for ticket refunds or complaints about the festival.”

Acts including Lightning Seeds, Hacienda Classical and Reverend And The Makers were due to perform at the event in Liverpool. Instead attendees were handed notices stating that the festival would not be continuing.

They read: “The event management company who were responsible for delivering the Hope and Glory event have decided to cancel today’s festival. Liverpool City Council has no choice but to accept this decision.” Hope and Glory stated on their Twitter that all ticket profits would be going to the OneLove charity, for victims of the Manchester Arena bombing which killed 22 people earlier this year. Festival organizers later said the decision had been made with "great regret".

A message on their Facebook page said: "It was with great regret that we felt it was necessary to cancel today's Hope & Glory festival. "We will make another announcement by noon tomorrow."

Responding to James frontman Booth's description of the event, a Twitter post on the festival's page said: "Oh sit down Tim. Go back to your yoga." Another tweet from the festival's account said: "It's open house to attack the people that care it seems. "The threats of violence etc. The truth anyone? No? Carry on being vile then."
